Coinbase, the exchange, operates normally as an on-ramp and custodian. Note a material change: Coinbase retired its self-custodial Coinbase Commerce merchant product on 31 March 2026 and consolidated it into the custodial Coinbase Business platform. Merchants accepting crypto via Coinbase now do so custodially.
